Beguganjang is a forest guardian spirits in form of a tree. Based on Sumatra people’s mythology , Beguganjang were born by sacrificed a new born baby to the mother earth. In the nomadic periods, when a new family started a new clan, the first couple sacrifice their first son, burry him alive along with a small tree plant (a holy plant). They believe that by returning their son to the mother earth will transform him into the tree form with stronger spirits. A beguganjang tree will live and worshipped as the clan guardian for thousand years. Some of the clan even live by the body of the gigantic tree as their home.
